$585 for a Homemade Organic Blueberry Pie

While I cannot go into detail to protect privacy, I was talking with a friend the other day and they mentioned that as a chef they are able to charge close to $600 for a Homemade Pie.  I just thought this was both astounding and amazing.  I still am in disbelief.  But…if you produce a great product and you have customers that are willing to pay, then by all means, capitalize and put yourself ahead 🙂

So, if you guys would like to order a pie from my online bakery, Simly Sweet Kreations.com, do so before February 1 as that is when prices will be adjusted to match competitors ;P  Just kidding on the price hike, but not kidding if you would like a homemade dessert for any occasion.

Golden cows?

All cows going organic?

Last night I stopped at the local Harris Teeter grocery store to get milk and check out my staples and occasional temptations for sales. While I love raspberries, I refuse to spend over $2.50 a pint. I have been known to stock up when the price drops below $2. Just this past summer the price was $1.50 and I picked up 20 packages! Another example is my favorite breakfast cereal “Krispex.”. Besides the fact that cereals low in sugar tend to rarely to go on sale, I’m convinced they only do when close to expiration, Krispex lists for around $4 for a comparatively small box. The best deal I found was buy one get one free when I had to get a raincheck. I got 10 boxes that shopping trip. Last night as I strolled down the aisle it was $2.50 a box :). Quite reserved, I grabbed 4 boxes.

Now to the back of the store to get milk. Not a sale sign to be seen. I stood in shock for a moment as I saw the store brand gallon at $3.89! Ouch! I will be sure to not drop a single drip and use it before expiration!

In summary, I hope the cows are getting some real good food and luxurious hotel accomodations. 🙂

Way to get out of paying taxes

So I was hoping to be closer this year when it came to my taxes, but again I underpaid thousands of dollars.  I have decided that since Politicians can get away without paying taxes, I should be able to as well.  Instead of evading them, I am going to write a letter to President Obama and ask him to be exempt from taxes as I am an aspiring politician and once I am appointed to a government office, I will then pay them with the large salary given.

Inadvertant Personal Tour Guide?

Have you ever run into people you have not talked to in a while on the street? How about meeting a complete stranger one place and then seeing them again the following day somewhere else? Is that fate?

On occasion I have run into people I have known from a previous job or from college while volunteering. At the zoo an administrator from Allegheny College recognized me and said hello. At the Air and Space Museum, a co-worker from my old job which is about 7 hours driving away recognized me and chatted a bit.

Saturday

This past weekend I was at the Zoo on Saturday interpreting at the Lion and Tiger habitat and engaged in a fairly lengthy conversation with a couple who were visiting DC. He was from Connecticut and she Rhode Island. We talked about Lions, Tigers and all things zoo for a while and then they headed off.

Sunday

On Sunday, I volunteer at the Air and Space Museum in the morning.  About the middle of the morning I noticed a couple.  Perhaps it was the coat he was wearing, but they looked familiar for some reason and I was not sure from where.  He is also not the only one with a buzz cut and a long  black Cashmere coat with a girlfriend to be sure.  So I decided to come out from behind the information desk to take them a map of the museum and take a closer look.  I don’t think they recognized me, but they looked very familiar and I asked them if they were at the Zoo yesterday.  They said yes and I replied…” You are from Connecticut and you from Rhode Island.”  They immediately remembered me and asked “Do you work at every museum?”  I had to laugh and said no, just at the two you visited. They were my favorite museums as a kid and seemed logical to volunteer at when I moved to DC.  I did not want to be too creapy, so I did not talk to much with them there, and wished them a pleasant visit to the museum.

All I could think of next…..what if they showed up at World Market that night!   At that point I would need to get a restraining order, or more likely see if they wanted to be friends on Facebook 🙂
