Return to Sender

Already opted out and still getting junk mail?  Is there a pre paid postage label?  Cut off your mailing address and restuff all of the enclosed materials into the envelope and send it back. 🙂

My philosophy is as simple as that.  I don’t enjoy getting junk mail, though I do like my shredder, I will resist and return the junk mail at the senders expense.

My Hypothesis

I believe that if enough people do this, companies will either no longer provide postage paid return envelopes which in turn may decrease sales, or simply refer recipients to a website to get the offer and no longer accept replies via mail, or totally rely on email and no longer send via the postal service which would help the environment.  We have spam filters for email which in my case work very well, but postal workers by law cannot discard any mail addressed correctly and are not able to provide spam protection for postal mail.

If you are on facebook, you can search for the group I created.  Let’s combat the junk mail!

P.S. – I have not tried it yet, but it would be cool to ship back at the senders expense a box of rocks 🙂  Simply tape the return envelope on the box.  Be sure to remove your name as I am sure they will be upset.

Opps..let me comp that and then charge you for the replacement.

Anyone have a bad restaurant experience?  Perhaps since I was a restaurant owner and a waiter for close to 2 years, I am a bit less forgiving when it comes to eating out.  Here is the letter I wrote to the parent company of Bar Louie.  I would have expected a compensation, or at least an expedited replacement.  Perhaps it takes a long time to make a 8″ thin crust pizza, but I would have expected a faster turn around time and a visit from the manager on duty.

Hello,

I wanted to mention my recent visit to Bar Louie in DC.  My order we inputted incorrectly into the computer by another staff as my waitress was apparently too busy.  My friends order was correct and he ate while I waited 15 minutes for a new pizza to be made.

When it came time for the check, I was happy that the waitress said that since it was a mistake on their part, she “comped” the pizza.  I was a bit confused as there were 2 pizzas listed on the bill.  There was a -$9.99 “Quality Control” on the bill, but that apparently was to negate the incorrect pizza.  From what the waitress explained, it was added and then removed from the bill per corporate.  As a restaurant owner myself, I can see it being a way to control shrink and food costs, but was mislead to believe that I was compensated for the error and delay.  I was not.  I would have talked with a manager, but was about to be late for a movie and did not have time.

I understand that is likely nothing you can do, but unfortunately, this is the second error and my last visit to Bar Louie.  Great food, but poor service.

Sincerely,

Jason Clock

No Soliciting!!!!

Hmm…sometimes I wonder if signs really do anything.  Probably not, stop signs don’t work, don’t walk signs don’t work….so why would a No Solicitation sign in my apartment building mean anything?  First of all, it is only in English, and I am betting that 30% of Americans have no idea what that big word means!  Perhaps No Flyers or a picture would work better to get to more people if they care.

So…tonight, I heard a flyer come under the door.  Normally I am at work and see it when I get home.  I opened the door, walked over to the kid (would not had they been built or older as I have never been in a fight), Adrenaline pumping, and told him that he is not allowed to hand out the flyers.  He looked a little shocked and took out his earbuds.  I took the flyers from him and walked back into my apartment and locked the door.  He walked around a bit and then I heard him get into the elevator.  I took the stack of 500 flyers, he probably covered the floors above or below me already, and presented them to the concierge.  I recycled them and pointed out the kid who was just outside the front entrance.  She walked out, asked him if he was handing out flyers, and then was told that if he ever did it again, they would not be able to deliver.  He ran off scared.

I felt like a hero today..but if he were older, probably would not have messed with him…and if he were experienced, would not have let me take the flyers and would have taken off running.
