Movie Review: Definitely Maybe

New to DVD this week, “Definitely Maybe.”  I meant to see it in the theatre over Valentines this past February, but did not have the time.  I rented it last night and it is spectacular!  Abigail Breslin and Ryan Reynolds who I remembered from “Van Wilder,” a movie I own ashamedly.  (I don’t think I have watched it though 🙂  One of those movies from my childish days purchased with the “Scary Movie” series.)

I think I watch too many movies.  I know so actually, I tend to put in a movie when baking, cleaning, or when I really plan to pay attention in lieu of television.  I despise advertising and until television becomes commercial free, should be now since cable costs money, a reason why I don’t get cable now, movies it will be 🙂

I think it just my brain, but I tend to recognize people by face more than name.  While the dvd cover does not mention it, Kevin Kline has a small roll in the movie.  His makeup and costume disguised him, but his voice revealed him.

If you read my last post you saw that “Teasers” for movies tend to draw you in with the most interesting parts smashed together.  This was definitely the case here!  If you remember “The Never Ending Story” you recall two well known stars, one reading a book and the other listening and both of them chiming in as the story is portrayed on the screen.  This is how “Definitely Maybe” unfolds.  Abigail Breslin, portraying a similar role as in “No Reservations,” is the demanding insistent daughter of a failing marriage wanting to know the story of how her mom and dad met.  Ryan Reynolds intrigued me as an actor.  I think this was because he was relatively expressionless and his voice steady and almost calming.  Hard to explain, so check out this “chic flick” and let me know what you think.

Another movie that kept my attention and eyes off the clock.

Planning on checking out “Wanted” and “Wall*e” which open this weekend, so come back soon!

Movie Review: Kung Fu Panda (Spoliers…..just a few)

This past weekend I finally checked out “Kung Fu Panda.”  As you may know, I am a tour guide at the National Zoo and the Giant Pandas are a big hit.  Not really a Jack Black fan, but the “Skidooosh” with the belly bump really got me interested, not to mention the many other notable cast members.

The movie was very entertaining and kept my attention throughout with not even one glance to my watch!  The fight between the leopard and panda came and I was waiting for the “Skidoosh”, saw the belly bump and…..there was none.  Just goes to show you how much movie “teasers” are just that. 🙂  The “Skidoosh” came with the “Wooshi Finger Hold” and was great.

A good film for all ages, except the babies that cannot talk and just want to cry, (hint hint, stay home next time) “Kung Fu Panda” is a great film, one that I will likely pick up on DVD when released.

Movie Review: “The Happening” (Spoilers)

If you have not noticed already, I really do enjoy movies 🙂  This past weekend on a rainy Saturday, I caught “The Happening.”  You have to respect those movies released on Friday the 13th.  While there were some laughs in the movie, it was mainly a horror movie.

Okay, normally movies trailers draw people in to movies and that was what happened this time.  The trailer initially kept me away from “Ironman,” but good reviews ultimately drew me in.  This time it was the trailer and not the Yahoo movies “C” reviews by both critics and movie goers like myself.

I do have to admit I like Mark Walhberg too 🙂

Today, the Environment has been a big concern and it was a theme in this movie.  I was a bit surprised that the trees and grass, the very entities that create the oxygen we breath, started to release a neuro toxin causing us the commit suicide.  That being said it there were very graphic scenes which did peak my interest.  I was kind of hoping for a Star Trek type of movie where the stars find a solution to the problem kind of like when Captain Kirk goes back to the past to bring a Humpback Whale to the present in order to respond to an alien probe whose communications are vaporizing the oceans and blocking the sun.  The stars deduce that the neuro toxins are released in highly populated areas first, targeting smaller populations in order.  So, in order to stay alive, they must continue to get into smaller groups and stay away from others.  Just when you think it is over……the trees and grass stop killing.  hmmm  Was this a precursor to the end of the human population?  As it was localized, the Government is blamed for chemical weapons testing, but at the very end of the short 90 minute movie…France is attacked!  AHHHHHHH!  Let’s hope there is NOT a sequel.

Movie Review: Ironman

So after the chit chat which pretty much ruined “The Strangers.” I headed to the Potomac Yard Regal Cinema to catch “Ironman.”  The initial preview did not entice me to see the movie, but the good reviews peaked my interest.

I don’t remember how long “Titanic” was, but long movies tend to make me restless.  I am happy to report that I did not look at my watch for the entire 2 hours and 6 minutes!  Now that is a engaging movie!  It was exciting like “Batman Begins.”  The technology was very cool.  While the metal to human skin integration has always made me squeamish, it was on the big screen for just a few minutes.

While I don’t have much to say as I don’t really know the story or what to compare it to, but I would say it is in the likeness of Batman.  So all you Batman lovers, check out Ironman, you won’t be disappointed!
