Remote App for iPhone and iTouch!

Awesome!

That is all I have to say about the “Remote” app for the iPhone and iTouch from Apple.

What is does:

Allows you to connect via wireless to a computer on the same network that has iTunes installed.

How it works:

Once installed, you get a code on your portable device.  Go over to your iTunes library on your Mac or PC and under Devices, select your portable device.  If it is not there, I would restart iTunes and the app on your device.

Enter the code generated on your iPhone or iTouch on your computer and viola, you are linked and your portable device can now access your playlists.  I think you can get to the whole library, but besides searching, was only able to list by album or artist.

Some cool things:

  • You can control the volume of your speakers from the slider on your phone.  It looks as if you have the music on your phone with the familiar look of iTunes.
  • Works anywhere on the network.  Originally I thought that “remote” meant it worked as the optional remote controls did and needed to be in line of sight.  I was so wrong!  Full control of your iTunes library, can configure for more than one, from anywhere on the same network!

DC Metro

I sure do love the Metro system in DC.  While I ride my bike most everywhere, occasionally I do take the metrorail.  Tonight, a few interesting things happened….

1) I was asked by a metro transit police officer to stop drinking my water.  I know there is not eating or drinking, but honestly, you are not allowed to have water!?

2) I was telling my partner 2 days ago that, I bet Obama will replace the panda on the paper metro tickets….and guess what, he now is!

Did I mention I think I am psychic?

Blu-Ray SUCKS!

So I picked up Mama Mia! on Blu-Ray DVD today.  Besides only being $3 off retail at both Target and Best Buy, I have been sold on the 7.1 surround sound.  I don’t waste money on “regular” movies that aren’t based on a musical score.  So I thankfully am watching the newest in the Mummy saga.

I would like to be watching Mama Mia!, but my new Samsung BD-P1500 cannnot play it!  I updated the firmware which took what seemed like close to an hour just to download.  I own a Toshiba HD DVD Player and never had to update it.  Granted no new movies were released after the player came out, but I have heard from others that Blu-Ray has caused nothing but trouble and with Sony Blu-Ray players, takes around 3 months for a compatible Blu-Ray Firmware Update!  What! I thought Sony owned the specification.  I would think that perhaps there could be some kind of standard?  I do believe that every “standard” DVD will play in any DVD player from the beginning of time, but not Blu-Ray.  Needless to say I am upset and of course cannot return the movie and get the “standard” DVD, but may try to exchange it for another DVD so that the Movie Industry can reimburse Target for a “defective” disk.

If blu-ray does not sell this holiday season…movie industry executives may scrap Blu-Ray

Now that is an interesting statement I found online.  So I would be left with 2 dead DVD successors!

So….I am trying another firmware update…aparrently the one downloaded by the player was not the most recent.  Crossing Fingers.

Review: Madagascar 2 (Spoilers)i

Who does not love the militant penguins!  I wish they would make a movie just on them.  LOL.  Anyway…back to the movie.

We start by getting a flash back to the first movie and then into the past where we learn how “Alex” ended up in the Central Park Zoo.  He was baited and captured from an African preserve.

The lemurs have a spectacular sling shot plane takeoff with eventually crash lands in Africa.  The group of zoo animals find themselves in a preserve in Africa and Alex runs into his parents who happen to be the head of the pride.  The birthmark, which happens to be in the shape of Africa is on his paw like his father.

The old lady that kicks the “Bad Kitty’s” butt in the first movie, is back for several rounds in this movie as well.  It turns out that New Yorker’s while rude, are also very strong willed and proud.  Before killing Alex and his father who just rescued him from being roasted on a spit, Alex performs his zoo act and is recognized by the New Yorker’s which keeps them from becoming dinner.

Gloria and the Giraffe fall in love.  The lead penguin marries his bobble head Tahitian bride, and the penguins depart the island in their rebuilt air plane which after some skillful redesign becomes a helicopter.

The movie was very entertaining and had me laughing throughout.  The only thing I did not like…is the fact that there is a bully lion that is trying to take over the pride much like Disney’s “The Lion King” and Alex leaves the pride first by being taken away, and then again when he is tricked and fails his right of passage.   This was not necessary and could have been totally eliminated from the movie not making the movie reminiscent of another, but the ass kicking by the old lady when he is sporting her purse as a man bag is priceless.

Let me know what you think?  Was it better than the first?  Is the bully lion necessary?
