One minute on my bike…the next on the ground…I.

I was just about to stop at my apartment and within a split second… was on the ground.

I did notice some water on the ground and while it was wet, did not appear to be frozen.  It did not feel like it was cold enough outside, but when coming inside after, noticed that the current temperature was 32 degrees.  I had just changed my tires a few weeks ago and this was the first time I had ridden in wet conditions.  The tires I purchased were Hutchison Equinox which promised good grip in wintery conditions.  Not to blame the tires, but with over 2000 miles on the OEM bike tire without a problem, I am a little skeptical.

As I laid on the ground with pain in my leg and arm, I was thankful that I had long pants and 3 long sleeved shirts on.  My fear was to crash with a lot of exposed skin and scraping along the ground picking up stones and other debris under the skin.  At quick glance I did not have any holes in my clothes and did no notice any bleeding.  My ankles seemed to be okay and my Crank Brothers cleats and pedals separated as expected and I was thankful I did not have any broken bones.

Initially I was a little in shock….I think I blacked out for a brief moment as I focused my eyes and checked out the scene.  My leg was a bit stiff and seemed quite painful along with my arm.  I finally got myself up and limped into my building.  I was trying to walk off the accident.

Upon inspection I noticed a hole in my bottom long sleeved layer and a scrape on my arm and under my pants and shorts which were not torn, a large bruise and a few scrapes on my leg.  It is very sore to the touch and hoping that by tomorrow I will be walking normally 🙂

So…..I had been afraid of falling off my bike and envisioned it would involve a flat tire, broken chain, frame….something that failed and did not expect to fall on a small patch of water.

A Pharmaceutical Promo Not to Accept

If you visit a doctors office, you likely see pens and pads of paper with different drug endorsements.  If you get a glimpse of the physicians computer, you will likely see a stamped mouse pad and I have seen even a promotional mouse!

Marlboro coat?

When I was a kid and tobacco companies were not censored in advertising, it was not uncommon to see a heavy smoker with cigaret gear.  My Scoutmaster had a coat, portable grill, and countless other products he received free from cigaret purchases.  Looking back, it is very sad that he was addicted…..

The Point….

Today while volunteering at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, I noticed a family with kids.  The mother was carrying an empty bag which was quickly filled with coats and passed to the father to carry.  It was a bright green bag with the product logo from “Cialis!”  What?  Do they have a program where you buy a years supply and get a free bag?  Is one of them a doctor and receive the bag as a bribe?  WOW!  I could not believe it!  Perhaps they did not know what the product was?  With all the commercials on television, one would think not.

Avenue Q on Broadway

Break from the Dog Show…

From 8 am until close to 3 pm dogs are judged.  Around 8 pm each evening a final selection is done.  Day 1 a few of the Group Winners were selected and Day 2, the remaining groups and Best in Show.

So…we walked by the Half Price Ticket booth in Times Square… between the Milford Plaza Hotel where we were staying and the MSG Arena and noticed Avenue Q was showing.  It is not normal on a Monday to have shows, but there were a few.

We ended up getting 5th row seats for just $67, half the usual cost each ticket.  This is the second time in NYC and 3rd overall for the show.  Saw it in DC as well.  So funny!  I was going to see about getting tickets in DC this week, but did not have time between jobs, so we settled for NYC 🙂  LOL.

If you have not seen it, it is basically a non-pc Seasme Street for adults.  Check it out!

Mama Mia on Broadway!

Mama Mia!

Wow..excellent show!  We had 3rd row center seats.  Was so cool!  After watching the movie many times, it was hard to not sign along.  The songs were great and the acting excellent.  While the movie was good, I was almost in the action!

Movie vs Broadway

A few differences I noticed

  1. Bill Anderson in Movie and Bill Ausin in the show.
  2. 3 additional songs in the Musical.
