Remote App for iPhone and iTouch!

Awesome!

That is all I have to say about the “Remote” app for the iPhone and iTouch from Apple.

What is does:

Allows you to connect via wireless to a computer on the same network that has iTunes installed.

How it works:

Once installed, you get a code on your portable device.  Go over to your iTunes library on your Mac or PC and under Devices, select your portable device.  If it is not there, I would restart iTunes and the app on your device.

Enter the code generated on your iPhone or iTouch on your computer and viola, you are linked and your portable device can now access your playlists.  I think you can get to the whole library, but besides searching, was only able to list by album or artist.

Some cool things:

  • You can control the volume of your speakers from the slider on your phone.  It looks as if you have the music on your phone with the familiar look of iTunes.
  • Works anywhere on the network.  Originally I thought that “remote” meant it worked as the optional remote controls did and needed to be in line of sight.  I was so wrong!  Full control of your iTunes library, can configure for more than one, from anywhere on the same network!

Blu-Ray SUCKS!

So I picked up Mama Mia! on Blu-Ray DVD today.  Besides only being $3 off retail at both Target and Best Buy, I have been sold on the 7.1 surround sound.  I don’t waste money on “regular” movies that aren’t based on a musical score.  So I thankfully am watching the newest in the Mummy saga.

I would like to be watching Mama Mia!, but my new Samsung BD-P1500 cannnot play it!  I updated the firmware which took what seemed like close to an hour just to download.  I own a Toshiba HD DVD Player and never had to update it.  Granted no new movies were released after the player came out, but I have heard from others that Blu-Ray has caused nothing but trouble and with Sony Blu-Ray players, takes around 3 months for a compatible Blu-Ray Firmware Update!  What! I thought Sony owned the specification.  I would think that perhaps there could be some kind of standard?  I do believe that every “standard” DVD will play in any DVD player from the beginning of time, but not Blu-Ray.  Needless to say I am upset and of course cannot return the movie and get the “standard” DVD, but may try to exchange it for another DVD so that the Movie Industry can reimburse Target for a “defective” disk.

If blu-ray does not sell this holiday season…movie industry executives may scrap Blu-Ray

Now that is an interesting statement I found online.  So I would be left with 2 dead DVD successors!

So….I am trying another firmware update…aparrently the one downloaded by the player was not the most recent.  Crossing Fingers.

1700 mile tuneup

So, I have been riding for close to 7 months now and took my bike in for a free tuneup at Hudson Trail Outfitters.  Not everyone gets a free tuneup, but if you buy your bike from them, you get them for life!

Up until this point I was making minor adjustments.  I believe I had adjusted my front derailer 3 or 4 times and recently needed to adjust my rear.  Since I ride everyday, it was hard for me to part with it for a few days, but when I went out of town for a few days, it was the perfect time.

I picked up the bike and it was so quiet 🙂 They really know what they are doing and I highly recommend them.

CHASE BANK = UNETHICAL CROOKS

So I called Chase, the new holder of the Circuit City Credit Card.  Apparently in the fine print in the 100 page booklet you are given when opening up an account, the lowest interest balances are paid off first and there is NOTHING that customer service can do about it.

I thought this was no longer permissible by law, but according to the customer service rep, which was not being helpful, is not.  This is definitely definitely a shady business practice, so I hope that some good comes from my post.  Since I was not able to apply my payment towards my interest bearing balance, I asked if she could lower my interest rate. The answer was “I don’t show any offers available at this time.”  How nice and convenient.

DON’T DO BUSINESS WITH CHASE!
